How the Formula Works
GATE Score = 350 + 900 x (M - Mq) / (Mt - Mq)
M is your marks (out of 100). Mq is the qualifying marks. Mt is the mean marks of the top 0.1% or top 10 candidates, whichever group is larger. The formula normalizes your performance so that scores are comparable across sessions and years.

Qualifying marks (Mq) change every year based on the difficulty level and average performance. General category Mq is typically 25-33 marks. SC/ST/PwD categories have lower qualifying marks (roughly 60-67% of the general cutoff). Enter the qualifying marks for your category and year in the calculator above for an accurate score.
Multi-Session Normalization
Some GATE papers like CS, ME, and EE run in multiple sessions across different days. Since question papers differ between sessions, raw marks are not directly comparable. IIT uses a normalization formula to adjust marks before applying the score formula.
The normalized marks replace M in the score formula above. This means two candidates with the same raw marks but from different sessions may get slightly different GATE scores. The normalization ensures neither session has an unfair advantage.
