About GATE Calculator
GATE Calculator is a free online platform built for students preparing for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Our primary tool is an exact replica of the TCS iON virtual scientific calculator that every GATE candidate encounters on exam day.
Why We Built This
The official TCS iON calculator is hosted on their website, but it frequently returns errors and is difficult to access for consistent practice. Most competitors offer articles about the calculator but no actual interactive tool. We fill that gap.
Students unfamiliar with the virtual calculator struggle with two things: the reversed input order compared to physical calculators, and the mouse-only input that is significantly slower than typing. Both require deliberate practice to overcome, which is why we built a free tool that is always accessible.
Our Methodology
We built our virtual calculator by studying the official TCS iON calculator's interface, button layout, and behavior. We verified our implementation against the official tool and cross-referenced with published guides from GATE preparation resources. Our virtual calculator guide and function reference document every button sequence.
Our score, marks, and percentile calculators use the official formulas published by the organizing IITs.
Built by Meet Dhanani
GATE Calculator is built and maintained by Meet Dhanani, an engineer who experienced the TCS iON virtual calculator firsthand during GATE preparation. The frustration of encountering an unfamiliar calculator interface on exam day - and watching it cost valuable minutes - is what motivated building a free, always-accessible practice tool. Meet handles everything from calculator logic implementation to writing the exam preparation guides published on this site.
